What Exactly Is Dimensional Weight?

Dimensional weight, or DIM weight, is a pricing technique used by shipping carriers to calculate the cost of a package based on its volume and actual weight. This method accounts for the space a package occupies during transportation, which is particularly important for lightweight but bulky items or vice versa.

To determine the dimensional weight, we measure the package’s dimensions (length, width, and height) and then divide by a specific DIM factor (volume allowed per unit of weight) provided by the carrier.
